Final Mining

Richard
Hendricksen for State Representative
To the
voters of the 109th
District:
Clean,
fresh water has been called the “blue gold” of
the 21st
century. It is more vital to life than oil, more valuable
than nickel or copper. But here in the Upper Peninsula our
fresh water is threatened by sulfide mining. This is
reality.
Voting in our country is not only a right; it is a
responsibility. Tomorrow the future of the U.P. and its
blue gold is your responsibility.
Your vote for me is your opportunity to just say
“NO” to sulfide mining. In Lansing I will do
all I can to amend our sulfide mining law. No other
candidate promises you this.
And I promise it with all my heart.
Throughout this primary campaign I have sought to tell you
why sulfide mining is the wrong answer for our long-term
economic health and quality of life.
Of course I care about better health care, better schools,
better
roads. But the issue of sulfide mining is serious to the
point of emergency.
In all goodwill and with forthright words I have presented
a worthy alternative for economic growth. By upgrading our
parks we will develop further what we are today: a tourist
haven of national importance. With protected places we can
have lasting, respectable jobs, stable communities, and
keep our wilderness traditions.
Tomorrow’s
primary for the 109th
District State Representative is in effect a referendum on
how we choose to grow. Growth changes things--always. At
this critical time, our choices on economic growth will
reverberate through the coming decades.
In
tomorrow’s very important election, please vote for
me, Richard Hendricksen. As your next State Representative,
I will be dedicated to our present and future in this
special place on the shore of Gitchee-Gumee, the Shining
Big-Sea-Water.
Thank
you for all your support, Richard Hendricksen
