The Plan
(this was written 2-3 years ago)
It is to somehow get the legislators to listen. Nothing can happen until so. I suspect, some sort of bill must be passed.
1. Gather information from all UP counties. Meet and talk with them, deep into the night.
2. Especially speak with the owners of lands near and within park areas, as well as township officials, bar patrons, church-goers, fishermen, loggers, et. al.
3. See the Indian tribes. Walk among them, try to step into their shoes
4. Go back to our legislators, tell them what I’ve learned.
5. Lay out more specific boundaries and acquisitions.
6. Work on the contract between yoopers and trolls.
7. Go back again to our legislators. Tell them what is happening, get their input.
8. Work with the DNR and timber companies.
9. Go back to our legislators as needed.
10. Use one’s mind, solve the problems, step forward., step backwards, step sideways, but continue.
11. Tell our legislators what’s happening.
12. Develop long term plans.
13. Continue.
Have you noticed that numbers 4, 7, and 9 all say the same thing? This project must and shall be done with eyes wide open, with an informed legislature.
It is possible that generally increased tourism income can compensate those UP townships with comparatively lower tax bases.
It is possible that Lower Michigan could treat Upper Michigan with respect, that our cares will not be thrown to the wind.
Is it possible to have our own governing control of some sort?
Can we dictate our own future? Can’t do that until we reform our mining laws.
