Request For Proposals For McCormick Grand Camp, Inc.

McCormick Grand Camp, Inc. is seeking a site for its five disassembled historic log buildings. They were located on an island in White Deer Lake of the McCormick Tract which is a federal wilderness in Marquette and Baraga counties. At the chosen site we will re-assemble the five buildings.

This project will recreate International Harvester Corporation founder Cyrus McCormick's eloquent grand camp with most of its historic paraphernalia. This would be an exhibit of very fine quality and, we believe, would enhance a community's tourism.

Your community or business may have an interest in helping develop this tourist attraction and we invite you to submit a proposal. The attraction could range from a "Theme Park" or "Historic Village", to a secluded, quiet bed and breakfast place or even a large art gallery. The buildings themselves could possibly be dedicated to commercial or public use. We welcome any letters of interest.

The McCormick exhibit could be similar to exhibits at Fort Michimilimackinac, Fort Wilkins or Fayette State Park. It could function with other attractions. McCormick is in a league with other Grand Camps in the Adirondock Mountains and is representative of one of the finest wilderness areas in the North Central United States.

The intent of this "Request for Proposal" is to make potentially interested parties aware of this project and invite them to ask further questions, or come to Marquette and view slides, photos, drawings, and a model to facilitate discussion. Mr. Richard Hendricksen will be available for a presentation.

Prior to submitting a letter of intent, letters of interest and any specific questions may be submitted to:

"It is not significant that Mr. McCormick walked or touched these items, as compared to say Abraham Lincoln. What is important to me is the example of preservation and an example of how the National Park Service had its beginnings. If it were not for the few people that had the monies to amass large chunks of land, many wilderness parcels would not be here today."
